We have Websites V2 running on our test environment for testing purposes and today we updated them with latest patches from Microsoft update. After updates most of all roles was in repair loop. This Blog post describes how we solve the case
Our WorkerServers failed to install “asp.net MVC 2” “asp.net MVC 3” patches and what we found from logs for reason it was:
Product: Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 — A later version of Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 is already installed. Setup will now exit.
Product: Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 3 — A later version of Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 3 is already installed. Setup will now exit.
After manually uninstalling following products from servers update proceed successfully.
On PublisherServers, ManagementServers and FileServers we had error messages like:
Failed to run operation ‘RunRemote’. Remote agent (URL http://servername:8173/WEBFARMAGENTSERVICE/) could not be contacted.
When we checked installed products and dates on the servers we noticed that Agent was updated today. After uninstalling “Microsoft Web Farm Agent for Websites” manually from servers and then ran Repair option from IIS they started to work correctly.
