Basic steps to install HA Virtual Machine Manager 2012R2

This blog is step-by-step guide to install HA VMM 2012R2. We will use VMs for VMM, but with physical servers it´s quite same steps. We will need two VMs with Win 2012R2 on same Hyper-V cluster that we can use shared vhdx disk for quorum.

What I have already done is the following:
– Installed 2x windows 2012 R2 std VM. VMs are joined to domain and also have vNic and private IPs for cluster communication
– SQL 2012 SP1 installed to another server for VMM SQL database

Details for SQL installation and other basic steps can be found from my earlier blog post HERE

Create following users and global group to Active Directory:
virtualstation\scvmmsvc Description: SCVMM Service Account account
virtualstation\scvmmadmin Description: SCVMM RunAs account for managing hosts
virtualstation\vmmsqlsvc Description: VMMSQL service account
virtualstation\SCVMMAdmins Description: SCVMM Administrators security group

Add “scvmmsvc” and “scvmmadmin” and your own account as a member of “scvmmadmins” group.
Add “scvmmsvc” as local administrator on both VMM nodes

Next I will create disk for Quorum on one of the Hyper-V host with following command:

Then we need to attach disk to both VMs as shared disk:

Install needed roles and features on VMM nodes:

Install Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 prequisites:

install the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 8.1
Choose only: “Deployment Tools” and “Windows Preinstallation Environment”
